Alex and Simon are two of the kindest people I’ve ever met. From the first time we met and they welcomed me into their home as we sat drinking beer and chatting about their wedding plans to their wedding day where they were constantly making sure everyone around them was comfortable, happy and fed. Alex was so focussed on helping everyone else get ready and getting the girls dressed that she almost ran out of time to get dressed herself! She was so relaxed in fact that she made her way to the ceremony without bringing her beautiful bouquet with her! So her trusty bridesmaids worked together to build her a new bouquet with pieces they had pulled from their own. She totally got away with it as well as no-one realised until she told us!

Their ceremony was held out on Rocky Point Island at Balmoral, a quiet oasis surrounded by trees and ocean. It was officiated by Sophie Coombes whose infectious smile immediately mesmerised the guests. Simon’s two daughters walked down the aisle before Alex and they both had important roles in the ceremony. Amelia embraced the spotlight as she performed a special reading and took every opportunity to be close to the happy couple. One of my absolute favourite parts of the day was when the celebrant Sophie asked all the guests to share a kiss or hug just after the first kiss in a giant celebration of love! What a beautiful thing to witness!

It seems the ceremony was held not a moment too soon as clouds began to gather soon after. There was nothing in the forecast but all of a sudden gale force winds and torrential rain ensued in the middle of bridal party portraits! As a testament to their relaxed nature, Alex, Simon and their friends laughed it off as we hid under a bridge. Alex, Simon and I soldiered on as we wandered around Balmoral taking a few snaps – but it got to the point where they were absolutely soaked (yet still laughing) so we hopped in an Uber and headed down to the reception venue at Public Dining Room. After drying ourselves off we settled in for a relaxed evening of good food and good tunes by Baker Boys Band.

Alex was born to wear that Karen Willis Holmes gown. It is still to this day one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen and it suited her perfectly. And I frothed a lot over those Louboutin shoes and Bill Hicks rings. Simon looked very sharp in his striking blue Canali suit while Martha B brought out Alex’s natural glow with her beautiful make-up skills.

Being foodies, Alex and Simon were pretty keen to enjoy a delicious three-course meal with their loved ones, which was one of the reasons they booked the Public Dining Room in Balmoral as the dishes there are out of this world! Alex is also a bit of a cake enthusiast herself and so had a clear picture in her head of what she wanted their cake to be like. Felicity Cook brought it to life with that stunning minimalist, geometric design – topped off with gorgeous sugar blooms! All of the Willow and Bear florals, from the flower crows to the arbour were absolutely incredible!

It was such a spectacular day and just goes to show that a bit (or a lot) of rain on your wedding day is nothing to cry about. Your day is what you make it – and Alex and Simon made the most of every second.
